About Study Course

Objective

To provide theoretical knowledge and acquisition of practical skills in hepatology and prevalent gastrointestinal tract infectious diseases, according to the Terms of Reference for the said specialty and to prepare the physician for the specialty certification in Gastroenterology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.To know liver disease etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment options, prevention; major gastrointestinal tract infections, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring; to know immunodeficiency diagnosis and treatment options. The most common parasitoses of the digestive tract in our region.

Skills

1.To be able to investigate patients with suspected viral hepatitis, to set up main standard antiviral schemes, be able to recognize and diagnose gastrointestinal tract intestinal infectious diseases; to perform 3-5 liver aspiration biopsies.

Competences

1.Ability to collect and analyse epidemiological data, liver disease challenges; draw up treatment and observation plans; select liver transplantation patients.

Familiarize yourself with the most common liver diseases with the main emphasis in this study course on viral hepatitis, their course, complications and treatment; be able to prescribe the necessary laboratory and visual diagnostic examinations for the differential diagnosis of liver diseases, intestinal infections, their diagnosis and treatment; Be able to realistically evaluate the indications and contraindications of transplantation. Know the main intestinal infections, their diagnosis, be able to assess their danger, carry out treatment, including emergency treatment. Know the main parasites of the digestive system, their clinic, diagnosis and treatment Prepare one viral hepatitis disease case presentation with at least 15 slides and 3 questions for the audience. Prepare a brief overview of current most frequent intestinal infections in Latvia, their seasonality.
