About Study Course

Objective

To provide knowledge of: a) Mental health criteria and their part in somatic disorders and in prophylaxis of disease; b) Main personality theories; personality functioning levels and structure of personality; c) Aetiology, diagnostic criteria and clinical presentation of eating and feeding disorders, relation to personality and emotional factors; d) Different types of psychotherapy, indications, contraindications; e) Therapeutic factors in nutritionist-patient relationship.

Knowledge

1.To analyse emotional etiopathogenic factors in eating disorders, describe indications for psychotherapy for patients with eating disorders.

Skills

1.To be able to recognize indications for psychotherapy for patients with eating disorders and ability to form therapeutic nutritionist-patient relationship.

Competences

1.To understand and analyse the need for psychotherapy for patients with eating disorders, understand diagnostic criteria and need for combined therapy.

Prepare clinical case for discussion in a group, according to the topic of the class. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

I. Knowledge: 60% – ability to define: 1. Patient’s mental health criteria, psychic defence mechanisms (20%) 2. Types of eating and feeding disorders, their relation to personality and emotional factors (20%) 3. Principles of building a therapeutic relationship between a nutrition specialist and a patient (20%). II. Skills: 40% 1. Basics of building a therapeutic relationship between nutrition specialist and patient (20%); 2. Elements of nutrition specialist – patient support psychotherapy (20%). The exam grade is cumulative. It consists of: 1. Intermediate examination – 50%. At the choice of the lecturer: • video analysis and/or • clinical case description and/or • open questions at the beginning of the lesson and/or • multiple choice test and/or • preparation of a presentation on the topic of the lesson 2. Final exam (50%) – electronic on e-studies or face-to-face multi-choice test on the topics covered within the course. It is possible to get automatic credit as the final grade if the following criteria are met: - Excelllent grade on intermediate examintation; - 100% attendance of classes and lectures; - Active participation in discussions and role plays OR a presentation on the topic of the class has been prepared: (a) literature review; (b) clinical case; (c) the latest research.
