About Study Course

Objective

to provide improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the forensic pathology according to the requirements of Speciality of Forensic Medicine Experts to prepare the doctor for certification in the speciality of a forensic expert, according to the laws and regulations of Latvian Republic.

1.during the studies obtained competence to carry out expertises forensic medicine of corpse, ability to carry out activities expected for experts of forensic medicine in criminal process, civil process or administrative process; obtained preliminary knowledge and skills for execution of scientific-research and pedagogical work; acquired ethical code of doctors and experts of forensic medicine, abilities to communicate with specialists and society as well as to give first medical aid; abilities to continue further education and to introduce innovations in their work.

to acquire knowledge and practical skills in pathology by listening to lectures, preparing seminars, caring out practical training in autopsy, corpses inspection at the scene, pedagogical work, visiting thematic conferences, Forensic Medicine experts association meetings, forensic and medical science conferences and congresses. Content of the programme: study programme encloses acquirement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following topics: cadaver forensic investigation reusable instruments and apparatus; forensic documents, the filling regulations; doctor activity inspection of the deceased at the scene; cadaverous signs investigation and determination of time of death; pathomorphology of the violent death; forensic traumatology; morphology of mechanical injury and emergence mechanisms; skull and cerebral trauma, clinical and forensic aspects; the types and morphology of mechanical asphyxia; impact of high and low temperature and injury morphology; pathogenesis and pathomorphology of intoxication; sudden death; impact of technical and atmospheric electricity on the human body; organization of forensic work and methods for the identification of persons; the basic of laboratory examinations (the general principles of the method, the collection of samples procedure during the autopsy and evaluation of the results, compiling the experts conclusion ) Examination of the body after death, tactics and techniques in different cases of violent death: a) blunt force and weapon injury related death b) falling from various heights related death, c) motor vehicle collisions related death, d) sharp force injuries related death, e) firearm and explosion injury related death , f) different asphyxia related death, g) high and low temperature impact, h) intoxication related death; i) forensic-medical examination of newborns corpses; j) associated with sexual abuse; k) associated with the manufacture; l) unknown person corpses expertise; m) putrefaction, decomposing body, etc. variations, mummified and skeletonized corpses expertise; n) exhumed corpses; o) radiation related death; p) electrical injuries and deaths; q) with high or low pressure impact or a rapid pressure change; r) deaths due to disaster; • theoretical education – seminars (whatch.3rd study year residency seminar programme, seminars Nr.1,2,4,5,8,9,15,16,19,25,29,30,31,33; Manipulation to be carried out (at the end of 3rd course - own performed 150 forensic corpse autopsy, prepared in 150 expert conclusions, 20 corpse inspection at the scene, 5 participation in legal proceedings, daily duty in the State of forensic center.

Report on the 3rd course performed forensic expert examinations of corpse, case studies, practical skills test, examination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills by evaluating the results in 10 grade system; 3rd year theoretical knowledge testing with a multiple-choice testing, practical skills and manipulation examination with the control autopsy in the presence of the expert commission. Professional competence, ethics and communication skills monthly and yearly assessment.
