About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in traumatology and orthopaedics according to the requirements of sport medicine physicians’ specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge of the mutual relation of sports medicine as a multidisciplinary field of medicine and traumatology. Theoretical and practical knowledge about diagnostic possibilities, treatment methods and tactics for different injuries, especially sports injuries and prevention, diagnostics and dynamics of orthopedic diseases, individually adjusted physical activity for such patients and physical activity restrictions, necessary rehabilitation.

Skills

1.Ability to reasonably select the most suitable examination methods in case of diseases or injuries, assess results of examinations and prepare a treatment plan for patients in the field of traumatology and orthopaedics, awareness on the measures to be taken in emergency situations at prehospital stage.

Competences

1.Competence in solving different clinical cases, their diagnostics, etiopathogenesis, treatment, prevention and care.

Theoretical knowledge is acquired in 8 seminars and individual literature studies. During practical classes students control patients under the supervision of a physician eligible to provide such training, participate in examination and treatment of a patient by mastering patient examination, as well as diagnostics and medical manipulations. A medical resident acquires different traumatology diagnostic methods, methodology of the manipulations to be made and invasive and non-invasive medical technologies also applied in a sports medicine physicians practice.

At the end of the study course a head of the residency programme shall assess the theoretical knowledge obtained by a medical resident in writing and verbally. The written test shall be assessed according to the 10-point grading system.
