About Study Course

Objective

To provide and enhance the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in pediatric emergency surgery, per the pediatric surgical specialty’s requirements to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of pediatric surgery.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- emergency surgical disease conservative and surgical treatment indications for adults of various ages (with and without concomitant illness); - examination and treatment plan drafting for patients with acute surgical illnesses; - patient preparation peculiarities for operations of various organ systems, emphasizing attention to emergency and urgent operations in general surgery, as well as basic principles of treatment in the pre- and post-operative periods; - to orientate with the diagnostic methods and instruments used in emergency general surgery, as well as the surgical treatment options and principles.

Skills

1.- perform primary wound dressing, stitching of wounds - perform emergency assistance measures and sequences in cases of traumatic shock - provide qualified emergency assistance to patients of various ages suffering from acute surgical illnesses, and chronic surgical illness exacerbations; - perform soft tissue abscess drainage techniques as well as treatment of infected wounds. - Perform abdominal cavity puncture and abdominal cavity drainage.

Competences

1.- to provide qualified initial and emergency assistance to patients of various ages who suffer from surgical pathology (with or without concomitant illness) - to make a diagnostic plan in case of acute surgical pathologies in children.

To learn: • Detailed theoretical knowledge about emergency surgical conditions for children of various ages in cases of congenital, acquired, acute and chronic disease. • Conservative and surgical treatment indications and their application in emergency surgical situations for children of all ages. • Diagnostic methods, instruments and apparatuses, and practical skills for diagnostic and treatment manipulations used in emergency pediatric surgery, as well as for surgical treatment methods of practical application for surgically profiled pediatric patients. • To draft examination and treatment plans for patients with acute surgical diseases. • To provide qualified emergency assistance for children of various ages with acute surgical diseases and movement-supporting apparatuses for traumas and illnesses.
