About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the surgery speciality regulation to prepare the doctor for certification in surgeon’s speciality according to laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- to acquire detailed theoretical knowledge about the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis of common acute and chronic vascular surgical diseases; - to learn indications for conservative and surgical treatment of vascular diseases; - to learn about the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis of the most common acute and chronic vascular surgical diseases; - to interpret US, CT, CT and MR angiography data in vascular surgery; - to interpret US, CT, CT and MR angiography data in phlebology; - to learn the diagnosis of non-invasive and invasive vascular pathology; - to name transluminal revascularisation options, stent placement, embolisation, IVC filter placement. Indications, contraindications, complications. - to list possible complications in the remote post-operative period, diagnosis and treatment thereof.

Skills

1.- to draw up an examination and treatment plan for patients with vascular pathology; - to correctly choose transluminal revascularisation or conventional surgical methods during the treatment of patients; - to correctly choose the treatment method for occlusive diseases of arteries and aortas; - to prescribe adequate conservative treatment for patients with pathologies of arteries, veins, lymphatic vessels; - to provide first aid and emergency qualified assistance to patients with traumatic damage to blood vessels, thrombosis and embolism; - to interpret the results of diagnostic methods used (clinical tests, radiology, etc.) and examinations.

1.To provide qualified emergency assistance to patients with acute vascular diseases and traumatic injuries.

The doctor must learn about the diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in surgery, practical skills in diagnostic and therapeutic manipulation, as well as the practical application of therapeutic methods (surgery) in surgical patients to the extent prescribed in the programme.
