About Study Course

Objective

To learn the basics of sports medicine knowledge, skills and competences necessary for sports specialists.

Preliminary Knowledge

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.1. Main issue of sports medicine as the functioning of a health-promoting and ensuring system, its objectives, tasks, organisation of functioning. 2. Organisation and content of preventive medical examinations for children, young people and athletes in accordance with Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 594 of 06.09.2016, which prescribe the procedures for health care and medical supervision of children and athletes with increased load.

Skills

1.3. To determine and evaluate posture, body somatotype, the condition of legs and feet. 4. To determine the physical development of children and young people, be able to assess their conformity with the anthropometric standards of physical development in children and young people of Latvia. 5. To determine and be able to evaluate and analyse weight composition. 6. To provide first aid.

Competences

1.7. To assess the physical fitness of children and young people and the functional capacity of the body by using EUROFIT tests, to analyse results over time.

Assessment criteria for practical works, seminars and laboratory works. Practical works: 1-2 points – knowledge and skills in the development of practical works, 1-2 points – design of practical works, 1-2 points – answers to work tasks, competence in making assessments, conclusions and recommendations. Seminar classes: 1-2 points – active participation, demonstration of knowledge, 1 point: attitude towards studies, development dynamics. Assessment criteria for laboratory works: 4-5 points – answers to less than 25% of questions 6-7 points – answers to 25-40% of questions 8-9 points – answers to 40-50% of questions 10-11 points – answers to 50-60% of questions 12-13 points – answers to 60-70% of questions 14-16 points – answers to 70-80% of questions 17-19 points – answers to 80-90% of questions 20-21 points – answers to 90-100% of questions 22- 23 points – answers above 100% of questions demonstrate a deep understanding of the questions and the ability to link answers to insights in the field of health, sports and other sciences, latest scientific literature.
