About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery specialty regulation in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the surgeon specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- theoretical knowledge of the anatomy, pathophysiology of the lungs, pleura, bronchial system, oesophagus and chest wall; - theoretical knowledge of the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis of acute surgical diseases of the chest, indications for conservative and surgical treatment; - diagnostic methods, instruments used in thoracic surgery; - surgeon’s tactics in acute cases; - emergency assistance in cases of need, indications for operative treatment; - specifics of management of the postoperative period.

Skills

1.- To assess the patient’s general condition correctly. - To examine a patient with a thoracic pathology adequately. - To be able to puncture the pleural space. - To be able to drain the pleural cavity.

Competences

1.To provide first aid and emergency qualified assistance to patients with a thoracic pathology.

The doctor must learn about the diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in surgery, practical skills in diagnostic and therapeutic manipulation, as well as the practical application of therapeutic methods (surgery) in surgical patients to the extent prescribed in the programme.
