About Study Course
Objective
The course aims to raise awareness among students about the role of TV and streaming platform series in the media ecosystem. Students will learn the knowledge and methods of analyzing diverse series that include exploring the structure and stylistics of a narco. Series analysis is a critical approach that serves to expose cultural beliefs while also taking into account historical context and the dynamics of the audiovisual industry.
The course focuses on the cult series of the world, as well as reviews the series created in Latvia.
Preliminary Knowledge
Basic knowledge of the origins of cinema, documentary cinema or communication.

1.• understand the features of TV and streaming platforms in the series offering • take a critical theory approach to analysing multiple series; • recognise narrative and stylistic techniques; • to be able to assess the quality of the series and its impact in the audiovisual sector;

1.• Critically evaluate TV and streaming platform content • Discuss and present series analysis individually and in groups; • Apply theoretical knowledge in practice.

The final grade of the course shall consist of the practical work performed during the semester. Final assessment types: Task 1 (individual): series analysis No. 1 - a narcotic analysis of the structure. task 2 (individual): series analysis No. 2 - analysis of stylistic and visual techniques. task 3 (groups): series analysis No. 3 - representation of heroes. task 4 (groups): series analysis No. 4 - a narcissistic structure of a detective series. task 5 (individual): series analysis No. 5 - European series. task 6 (individual): series analysis No. 6 - Latvian series. Those students who will not have attended 80 per cent of lectures without justification will have a -1 point for final assessment. |

Final Test: series analysis No. 7 – an analysis of the selected series must be submitted, with a minimum volume of 2,000 words. Latvian, European or global television and streaming platform series can be analyzed. |
