About Study Course

Objective

To develop the creative potential in terms of visual art, to promote recognition and evaluation of one's experience of creating art, to introduce the language of art. Develop spontaneity, creativity, self-reflection abilities. To develop knowledge, skills and competence about the use of artistic language, signs, images, symbols, metaphors, interpretation, methods of discovering symbolic meaning in art therapy. Develop an understanding of the historical development of art therapy in Latvia and the world in general and in specialization. To develop an understanding of the diversity of theoretical positions and basic principles. To develop the ability to choose and use arts-based assessment and evaluation tools appropriate to the specificity and functional difficulties of the client/patient group, to develop an understanding of the criteria for evaluating the results of art therapy.

1.In the entire study course "Visual plastic art therapy I": Name the facts about the history of the development of art therapy in the world and in Latvia in general and in specialization, understanding the various stages of the development of art therapy and naming important persons related to them; explains the basic principles of various theoretical approaches of psychology and psychotherapy and their application and expression in art therapy in specialization; names and describes various visual art techniques; explains the concepts of sign, image, symbol, metaphor; names and describes art-based evaluation and assessment tools in the specialty, explains and justifies their application to different patient/client groups; understands ethical considerations regarding assessment and evaluation in art therapy; explains general concepts in the context of profession and specialization in order to develop professional language.

Create two works of art in seven different visual art techniques; 3. Make entries in the diary of professional development, reflecting on personal experience in working with various art materials and techniques; 4. Preparing for the final presentation. Independent work in the course part "History and theoretical approaches of art therapy" 1. Independently consolidate the lecture material by systematically reading the indicated sources; 2. Read the literature and analyze 3 scientific studies according to the requirements; 3. In preparation for the final test on the content of the course part. Independent work in the course part "Arts-based assessment" 1. Independently consolidate the lecture material by systematically reading the indicated sources; 2. Assess 2 patients/clients (different age groups) using an art-based assessment tool appropriate for the patient/client; 3. Create a presentation that reflects the evaluation of one patient/client; 3. In preparation for the final test on the content of the course part. At the end of the study course, the student must provide an evaluation of the study course.

1. In the part of the course "Art Making at the VPAT": creation of twenty-one artworks (three artworks in seven different artistic techniques) (40% of the course part grade). Writing a professional development diary (20% of the course part grade). Finally, a presentation reflecting on the artworks created, in-depth research, analysis of the 3 artworks created by the student (40% of the course part grade). 2. In the part of the course "History of VPAT in Latvia and worldwide, theoretical approaches": (1) Analysis of 3 scientific studies (makes up 40% of the evaluation of the course part). It is possible to receive 2 points for each filled column of the table (total of 5 columns/5 criteria): 0 – not fulfilled 1- partially fulfilled 2 – fully executed It is possible to receive a total of 10 points for one table. It is possible to receive a total of 30 points for three studies. 30 points – 10 points 29 points – 9 points 28 points – 8 points 25 - 27 points - 7 points 22 – 24 points – 6 points 19 – 21 points – 5 points 14 – 18 points – 4 points 9 – 13 points – 3 points 5 – 8 points – 2 points 1 – 4 points – 1 point (2) Final test (7 questions) on the history of VPAT in Latvia and the world and theoretical approaches (makes up 60% of the evaluation of the course part). Evaluation of the test You can get 2 points for each answered question. 0 points – no answer 1 point - partially answered. The question is answered partially or too broadly, losing focus on the basic nature of the question. 2 points - fully answered. The question is answered precisely, structured, focused. Total: 14 points 14 points – 10 points 13 points – 9 points 12 points – 8 points 11 points - 7 points 10 points – 6 points 9 points – 5 points 8 points – 4 points 0-7 points – not counted 3. In the course "Assessment in VPAT": 1. Assessment of two clients/patients with different art-based assessment tools and documentation of the assessment results in a protocol, presentation on the assessment of one client/patient (50% of the course part grade). 3. Final test on art-based assessment tools (50% of the course part grade).
