About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the study course is to ensure an interim evaluation of the process of developing the diploma paper by examining the student’s ability to independently carry out research in the field of police work, structure the research, analyse the sources of rights and professional activity practices, as well as prepare for completion and defence of the diploma paper.

Preliminary Knowledge

All study courses of the study programme have been successfully acquired, as well as study papers and placement assignments have been fulfilled and defended in accordance with the requirements of the study programme.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student: 1. is familiar with the basic principles of the methodology of research work; 2. understands the problems of law and practice in the field of police work; 3. understands the structure of the diploma paper, research methods and requirements for the development of the scientific paper.

Skills

1.Student: 1. formulate the purpose, objectives and research questions of the study; 2. analyse laws, regulations, case law and professional practice; 3. structure the study and prepare diploma theses; 4. present the results of the study in pre-defence.

Competences

1.Student: 1. organise and carry out research independently in the field of police work; 2. give reasoned reasons for its conclusions and proposals; 3. demonstrate the ability to critically analyse the results of the study and professional practice.

Test

The pre-defence of the diploma shall be credited if:

  • the work complies with the requirements for the development and design of the research paper approved by the Faculty;
  • the work meets the requirements of academic integrity;
  • the subject of the diploma is clearly defined and the content of the work corresponds to the chosen subject;
  • the work defines the purpose of the study, the tasks and the structure of the study to achieve the objective pursued;
  • the work uses appropriate sources of rights, scientific literature and other sources of information related to the subject of the study;
  • an analysis of the regulatory framework, practice or other research objects has been carried out at work and reasonable conclusions have been drawn;
  • progress in the development of the diploma paper is sufficient to enable the work to be completed and directed towards defence;
  • the student demonstrates the results of the study in the pre-defence, is able to substantiate his or her conclusions in a reasoned manner and answers questions from the Commission.

Topics

Clarification and coordination of the subject of the diploma with the scientific supervisor.
Description

The student chooses the subject of the diploma paper, co-ordinates it with the chosen work supervisor, invites approval in the Faculty.

Development of a diploma structure and research plan.
Description

The student shall independently develop and co-ordinate with the work supervisor the structure of the diploma paper and the study plan.

Preparation of diploma departments.
Description

The student shall analyse the relevant laws and regulations, literature and professional practice, draw up a working text, formulate conclusions and proposals.

Submission of a diploma for pre-defence.
Description

The student shall co-ordinate the diploma work with the work supervisor and submit it for pre-defence.

Pre-defence of diploma work.
Description

The student defenders the diploma thesis to the Predefence Commission by presenting the topicality of the work, the purpose of the work, research questions, conclusions and proposals. Answers the Commission’s questions.
