About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with and improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery speciality regulations in order to prepare the doctor for certification in surgeon’s speciality.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- emergency thoracic organ surgical disease conservative and surgical treatment indications for patients of various ages (with or without concomitant diseases); - examination and treatment plan drafting for patients with acute thoracic organ surgical illnesses; - patient preparation peculiarities for operations, emphasizing attention to emergency and urgent operations in thoracic surgery, as well as patient treatment basic principles in pre- and post-operative periods; - to orientate with the diagnostic methods and instruments used in emergency thoracic surgery, as well as the treatment options and principles. To learn: • detailed theoretical knowledge of emergency situations for adults in cases of acute and chronic thoracic surgical disease; • conservative and surgical treatment indications and application in emergency thoracic surgical condition for adults with various concomitant diseases; • diagnostic methods, instruments, apparatuses, practical skills of diagnostic and therapeutic manipulations used in thoracic surgery, as well as surgical treatment method practical uses for surgically profiled patients • to draft examination and treatments plans for patients with acute thoracic organ surgical disease; • to provide qualified emergency assistance for patients with acute thoracic organ surgical illnesses.

Skills

1.- to provide qualified emergency assistance to patients of various ages suffering with acute thoracic organ surgical illnesses or chronic surgical disease exacerbation; - to be able to designate adequate analgesic therapy after treatment of thoracic organ surgical disease; - to perform soft tissue abscess drainage techniques and treatment of infected wounds. - to perform pleural cavity puncture and pleural cavity drainage; - to perform esophageal dilatation.

Competences

1.- to provide qualified initial and emergency assistance for patients of various ages suffering from thoracic organ surgical pathology (with or without concomitant diseases).
