About Study Course
Objective
The objective of the course is to provide acquisition of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and comprehension of origin of infectious diseases, mechanisms of disease progression in the human body, clinical signs and symptoms, available treatment strategies and particular therapeutic approaches, prevention and control of infectious diseases, impact on the individual’s quality of life and the public health in general.
Preliminary Knowledge
Knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry, biology, parasitology, pathologic physiology, microbiology, propaedeutics and internal diseases.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Students will be able to classify infectious diseases according to different characteristics: type of agent, pathways, severity and peculiarities of the process; describe and analyse the possibilities of limiting the spread of infectious diseases; define prevention measures; assess the level of prevention required by an individual in the context of infectious diseases; will identify and classify the required amount of health care for the individual.
Skills
1.Students will be able to recognise a specific symptom of the disease and obtain additional necessary medical history (life, disease, epidemiological) data from the patient; to evaluate the symptoms, which will allow to refer to a doctor – specialist; to implement the necessary prevention conditions; professionally collaborate with colleagues and specialists; to use the possibilities of independent learning and use of e-medicine; to raise awareness of healthy lifestyles and public health.
Competences
1.Comunicate with colleagues and professionals: use self-study and e-medicine opportunities, improve own understanding of healthy lifestyle and public health.

Students are given independent work (task) on a specific topic with control questions. The student provides answers by referring to the information found in lectures and literature.

Active participation in lectures and practical work. Control of theoretical knowledge by discussing the specific topic, work with literature using the e-environment, and timely completion of all independent work (tasks). At the end of the study course – a written exam on the topics acquired in lectures and classes. The exam is passed if 75% correct answers are provided.
