About Study Course

Objective

To provide basic knowledge and develop the prospective pharmacists’ understanding of the specifics of taking medicines for older people in the context of their physical and mental health, with a view to positively influencing quality of life in old age.

Preliminary Knowledge

Functional anatomy of organ systems and the human macro-organism as a whole, knowledge of pharmacotherapy based on knowledge of the regularities of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Includes up-to-date idea of the common and individual features of ageing, and differences in the use of medicines in old age.

Skills

1.Upon completing the course, the student will be able to draw up an age-appropriate medication plan, avoiding unjustified use and overdose of medicines.

Competences

1.Ability to assess the health problems of the elderly and provide adequate pharmaceutical care in collaboration with a doctor.
