About Study Course
Objective
The aim of the study course is to provide dental students with a safe and structured transition from theoretical training to clinical practice through a simulation-based learning approach, within which students systematically develop both technical and non-technical professional skills in a simulated environment.
Preliminary Knowledge
Prerequisites for the course include knowledge and competencies acquired in courses completed during previous years of the Dentistry study programme. Priority courses include: Human Anatomy; Introduction to the Profession; Advanced First Aid and Civil Protection; Legal Aspects of the Rights and Duties of Healthcare Professionals and Patients; Internal Medicine with Propaedeutics; Emergency Medicine and Toxicology.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Students know the fundamental principles of professional and patient-centred communication, including the theoretical basis for structured patient history taking in dentistry, the role of communication in sound clinical decision-making, strategies for conflict management, and the principles of communication and collaboration within teamwork. Students understand the principles of clinical reasoning, decision-making, and action in emergency situations, as well as the theoretical foundations of technical procedures required for their safe application in patient care.
Skills
1.Students are able to systematically elicit and document patients’ general and dental complaints by collecting comprehensive anamnesis data, asking purposeful questions, and professionally guiding the conversation during history taking. Students demonstrate empathy in communication with patients and their relatives, involve them in decision-making, and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Students apply communication strategies to manage conflicts and non-standard situations, adhere to professional ethical standards, and build cooperative relationships with patients and colleagues. Students observe the fundamental principles of asepsis during surgical procedures, perform topical, infiltration, and regional local anaesthesia, provide emergency medical assistance, and carry out basic resuscitation measures within the scope of their competence, while making sound decisions in emergency situations and collaborating effectively within a team.
Competences
1.Students are able to function professionally and in a patient-centred manner in the clinical environment, purposefully integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills into the treatment process. Students demonstrate effective professional communication with patients, constructive teamwork, and sound clinical decision-making in stressful and emergency situations, as well as the safe and confident application of technical skills in patient care.
