About Study Course
Objective
According to the needs of the specialty to be studied, to promote students' ability to orient themselves in the pharmacotherapy of the most frequent chronic diseases and acute conditions. To provide knowledge about the most characteristic side effects and contraindications, taking into account the choice of the method of administration.
Preliminary Knowledge
In physiology, pharmacology, pathological physiology.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Students will be able to describe the effect of medicines on the function of organ systems, will be able to define the basic indications, most common side effects and contraindications.
2.Students will be able to name examples of high-risk drugs and describe the problems of inappropriate prescription.
Skills
1.Be able to classify medicines according to their use in the treatment of chronic diagnoses, acute illnesses or emergency conditions.
2.Be able to describe the purpose and risks of the use of indicated medicines.
3.Be able to differentiate between risks associated with the use and administration of medicines according to severity.
4.Be able to calculate the dose to be administered according to the prescription.
Competences
1.Will be able to analyse the medicines indicated in the anamnesis and orders according to the expected clinical effect, will be able to assess their therapeutic effectiveness and the development of side effects in the work environment.
2.Be able to assess the appropriateness of the prescribed dosage and rate of administration of high-risk medications.
3.Be able to participate in the reduction of risks of medication errors, administration and inappropriate prescription.
4.Be able to educate patients about the correct use of medicines, their indications and adverse effects.
5.Be able to explain the meaning and therapeutic effectiveness of medicines in a vocabulary understandable to the patient.

At the end of the study course, on the scheduled dates, each student must carry out a pharmacotherapy evaluation for their chosen clinical case, defending it at the same time as the clinical placement. |

In the study course, an accumulated exam grade is awarded regardless of the value obtained if a positive grade is obtained during the first time of taking interim examinations and clinical case pharmacotherapy evaluation and defence. 60% of the average grade of both colloquia taken + 40% of the grade of the clinical case pharmacotherapy analysis (taking into account both the submitted evaluation protocol and the defence) If the criteria for first-time successful completion of interim examinations and defence are not met, a 30-question examination must be taken, which is implemented as a separate event (examination work). In this case, the final grade is calculated as a summative exam: 50% of the cumulative grade + 50% of the examination work grade. |
