Preliminary Knowledge

Basics of gastroenterology and nephrology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The student will gain knowledge of the existing special (magnifying endoscopy, chromoendoscopy, echoendoscopy, capsule endoscopy) and the latest diagnostic (enterography, invasive radiology) and treatment methods (biological therapy) in gastroenterology, including digestive endoscopy, and nephrology. The student will get an idea of kidney replacement therapy methods - hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, will know the principles of patient therapy, preparing for kidney replacement therapy, will be able to evaluate their benefits and possible risks. Will know the main methods to ensure chronic hemodialysis - the peculiarities of the use of arteriovenous fistula and prosthesis, the use of a central venous catheter, will know the principles of patient observation, complications and its correction.

Skills

1.Students will be able to select appropriate modern treatment options in medicinal gastroenterology, advanced endoscopy (biolio-pancreatic endoscopy, echoendoscopy, capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy) and liver diseases and nephrology (peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, transplantation).

Competences

1.Independently plan inquiry process in order to balance the knowledge of the compulsory course with the new subject matter, be able to establish the benefit / risk assessment, acting independently and in a group of 2-3 students, to be able to use literature, internet, colleagues' and teachers' knowledge, precise formulation of the question, assume responsibility for student group work presentation.

From bench to bedside, historical data, simulations, work with literature, including internet, resulting in the protocol for the diagnosis of the patient survey, the reasons, the main examination and choose the specific treatment of patients evaluated. For each class a short Power Point presentation with 3-7 slides is prepared. Special questions arisen from basic course will be recommended to be prepared. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

When evaluating the student's knowledge, participation in the discussions in each lesson is taken into account, as well as the student's activity, the accuracy of tests by using the names of the examinations, indications and contraindications, with the understanding and assessment of the ability to find new diagnosis and anticipate future opportunities. For each lesson the student is evaluated with a mark. The course evaluation mark is formed from the sum of all practical lesson marks divided by the number of lessons. The student's readiness (short presentation) and activity (questions, participation in the discussion) in the lesson are assessed.
