About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge in symptomatics, diagnostics, differential diagnosis of surgical emergency and treatment principles, methods and manipulations for emergency physician to be able to interpret clinical, laboratory and radiological findings, as well as to perform certain manipulations in the stage of casualty in the hospital.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To describe symptoms of acute abdominal cavities, thoracic organ, genito-urinary system, cardiovascular, soft tissue diseases and to formulate the possible differential diagnosis. • To interpret laboratory and radiological examination findings of the above mentioned diseases, its meaning. • To formulate indications for surgeon consultation and emergency surgery.

Skills

1.• To interpret symptoms and syndromes of emergency surgical pathology • To draw up examination plan • To initiate preparation of the patient for emergency surgery • To perform surgical treatment of wounds for out-patients in trauma center or in the casualty of the hospital. • To perform emergency punctures - pleural cavity puncture, ascites puncture.

Competences

1.Detection of surgical diseases, performance of emergency surgical manipulations and organisation of assistance for the patient with surgical pathology until the visit of surgeon or transportation of the patient to the surgeon.

Preparation of the surgical patient for emergency surgery and prevention of possible pathological conditions: danger of aspiration, possible dehydration of patients, pathological conditions caused by vomiting, hypovolemic alkalosis and hypokalemia, pathological condition caused by diarrhea characterized by metabolic acidosis and hypovolemia, metastases of cancerous formations with carcinomatous syndrome (dehydration, hypotension, hypertension, bronchospasm, heart failure)
