About Study Course

Objective

To improve students' knowledge, skills, and competencies in clinical procedures and emergency medical care in accordance with the extended competence nurse profession standard.

Preliminary Knowledge

Successful completion of the prior study courses on the study programme “Māszinības”.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Name and explain the areas of responsibility and key tasks of the medical staff (i.e. doctor-specialist, medical resident, nurse, etc.) in simulated clinical situations included in the study course.

2.Rational justification of the actions taken by analysing the execution of the simulated clinical situation scenario after-consultation. Students will obtain supplementation in the care of the patient, for factors contributing to recovery. Demonstrate orientation in the latest medical technologies used in clinical care.

Skills

1.Demonstrate the successful application of clinical skills acquired in previous courses and developed in this course in the implementation of simulated clinical situations.

2.Demonstrate the rational use of available equipment (etc. resources).

Competences

1.Student is able to demonstrate successful integration of knowledge, skills and competences by effectively participating in the implementation of simulated clinical situations.

2.Ability to apply and evaluate appropriate clinical procedures, medical devices and other activities for optimal patient care. To be able to analyse situations, to argue, to formulate and explain their point of view in a logical way.

All lecture and class tests have been successfully passed – mandatory.

All practical classes have been attended and passed – mandatory. The crediting of the practical class shall be performed by the teaching staff taking into account the student activity (demonstrated knowledge, skills and competences) in the implementation of clinical procedures and simulation scenarios and after-consultation activity.

Final test: exam.
