About Study Course
Objective
To provide medical residents with opportunities to acquire and improve theoretical knowledge and skills in the specific health care field of oncology in order to prepare them for successfully passing the certification examination in the specialty of a doctor of physical and rehabilitation medicine, in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Theoretical knowledge of the field of oncology, disease groups, classifications, treatment methods. The medical resident will be able to name and describe the most common oncological diseases that result in permanent and disabling health impairments in patients.
Skills
1.The medical resident will be able: to assess oncological patients in the early disease period or in case of exacerbation; to analyse the assessment results; to predict late outcomes; to identify risk factors for complications and draw up a complication prevention plan; to evaluate the possibility of early mobilisation of the patient or signs of contraindications.
Competences
1.The medical resident will be able: to use the acquired knowledge, planning the necessary rehabilitation in the future; to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan starting from the acute stage of treatment; to predict late treatment and rehabilitation outcomes; to develop a plan of preventive measures.

The daily work of a resident doctor with cardiac patients in an inpatient setting under the supervision of an oncologist entitled to teach.
Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and improvement of skills, according to the content of the study course.
Studies in depth the aetiology, prevalence and treatment of oncological diseases that can lead to permanent health impairments that limit patient functioning.

100% attendance of theoretical seminars.
Regular work with patients at the place of implementation of the study course under the guidance of a doctor entitled to teach.
Presentation of a patient or clinical case at the end of the study course.
Answering the questions prepared by the study course leader and teaching staff or passing tests in accordance with the Academic Regulations.
