About Study Course
Objective
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.On successful completion of the study course, residents will know the causes of jaundice, their clinical and laboratory picture, depending on the nature of the process (including obstructive jaundice, cholangitis, etc.), disease complications (ascites, portal hypertension, thrombosis), understand the biliary anatomy and treatment choice of approach (e.g. choice between endocoscopic and percutaneous treatment depending on the level of obstruction). Residents will be familiar with the materials and devices used (biliary access systems, drains, balloons, stents, stent-prostheses, etc.), the possibilities of obtaining the test material (aspiration/biopsy) in cases of biliary obstruction.
Skills
1.During the course, residents will learn to perform percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography and bile drainage fluoroscopy, ultrasonography control, biliary embolization, treatment of iatrogenic complications (e.g. bleeding, infection, etc.), as well as treatment of biliary tract concrements – percutaneous sphincterectomy. Residents will be able to treat focal liver treatments, such as liver abscesses and symptomatic cysts, through drainage or sclerotherapy.
Competences
1.On course completion residents will be able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills to diagnose and treat biliary system pathologies, will be aware of possible complications, will be able to diagnose and treat them. Residents will be able to evaluate the prognosis of diseases, apply examination algorithms to patients with jaundice, sepsis, biliary colic, cholangitis, biliary fistula, malignancy.
