About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with and improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the surgery speciality regulations, to prepare the doctor for certification in surgeon’s speciality according to regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- to master detailed theoretical knowledge on aetiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnostics and differential diagnostics of most common acute and chronic surgical vascular diseases; - to master indications for conservative and surgical treatment of vascular diseases; - aetiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnostics and differential diagnostics of most common acute and chronic surgical vascular diseases; - to interpret US, CT, CT and MRI angiography data in angiosurgery and phlebology; - to master non-invasive and invasive diagnostics of a vascular pathology; - to obtain knowledge on: possibilities of transluminal revascularisation, stent implantation, embolisation, cava filter implantation. Indications, contraindications, complications; - knowledge about potential complications in the postoperative period, their diagnostics and treatment.

Skills

1.- to draw up an examination and treatment plan for patients with a vascular pathology; - to choose transluminal revascularisation or conventional surgery methods in a proper way while treating patients; - to select a treatment method in case of occlusive arteries and aortic diseases in a proper way; - to prescribe an adequate conservative treatment to patients with arterial, venous, lymphatic pathologies; - to deliver qualified first and emergency medical assistance to patients with traumatic injuries of vessels in case of thrombosis and embolism; - to interpret the results of diagnostic methods (clinical analyses, radiological, etc.) and examinations used.

1.To deliver skilful emergency medical assistance to patients with acute vascular diseases and traumatic injuries.
