About Study Course

Objective

Acquaint students with definitions and terms of administrative law. Acquaint and discuss sources of administrative law, including court judgements and literature. Acquaint students with public administration of Latvia, its role and basic principles of the functioning of public administration. Acquaint students with the institutional structure and operational procedures of public administration. Provide insight into key areas of administrative law. Develop understanding of the place and role of administrative law within a democratic state. Ensure that students, both individually and in groups, analyse and address various issues of administrative law. Provide insight into the comparative dimension of administrative law. Develop students’ information selection and research skills. Develop the necessary legal expertise in the area of legal knowledge, understanding and application of law.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students understand the basic issues of administrative law; know the principles and components of administrative law; they are able to list subjects of administrative law and have acquainted themselves with the major institutes of administrative law.

Skills

1.Students are able to independently compile the sources necessary for the course, conduct independent research, present their work and analyse the presentations of other students in the field of administrative law.

Competences

1.Able to recognise and draw up an administrative act, able to apply and justify the principles of administrative law, able to draft legal texts in the field of administrative law.
