About Study Course

Objective

The course is designed for medical residents in cardiology to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as practical skills on the following: 1) chronic cardiovascular pathologies (aetiology, pathology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnoses, treatment methods) and 2) early and late treatment, rehabilitation and long-term prevention after acute cardiovascular pathologies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Demonstrates knowledge on the following: - aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment (drug, invasive and surgical) and prevention of chronic heart diseases; - aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment of lipid metabolism diseases; - arterial blood pressure measurement and monitoring methods; - clinical pharmacology (including pharmacokinetics and drug interactions) of pharmacological agents (including contrast agents) used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases; - principles of invasive and surgical methods used in the treatment of chronic cardiovascular diseases, indications and contraindications; - therapy and rehabilitation strategy for a patient after acute cardiac pathology.

Skills

1.- to know the methodology and specifics of anamnesis collection in the case of cardiovascular diseases; - to know cardiovascular physical examination methods; - to formulate the primary clinical diagnosis based on clinical and physical examination data for cardiology profile patients; - to draw up an examination plan and perform differential diagnosis for cardiology profile patients; - to draw up a treatment plan, formulate medicinal and non-medicinal treatment of cardiovascular diseases, know the indications for the use of invasive and surgical treatment methods and the essence of these methods; - to evaluate and be able to modify cardiovascular risk factors; - to perform a 6-minute walk test; - to be able to provide medical care to a patient after an acute cardiac pathology; - to draw up a rehabilitation and therapy plan for a patient after acute cardiac pathology; - to prepare an individual long-term prevention programme for a patient after acute cardiac pathology; - to diagnose and prevent acute pathological complications in patients after acute cardiac pathology.

Competences

1.- clinical interpretation of laboratory examination indications and results; - interpretation of arterial blood pressure monitoring results; - interpretation of the results of vascular elasticity examinations; - primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases; - diagnosis of chronic cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidemias and other risk factors, prevention, drug treatment, use of non-drug treatment methods, indications and contraindications; - outpatient and inpatient care of cardiological profile patients; - indications for endomyocardial biopsy and interpretation of the obtained results; - indications for percutaneous invasive treatment methods of acquired and hereditary structural heart diseases and large blood vessel diseases; - indications for invasive and surgical methods of heart failure treatment; - rehabilitation of cardiac patients (indications for referral and assessment of rehabilitation results); - observation of cardiac patients after treatment with non-invasive, invasive and surgical methods; - outpatient monitoring of arterial blood pressure; - indications for a six-minute walk test and interpretation of results thereof.
