About Study Course

Objective

To provide medical residents with opportunities to acquire and improve theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the care of neurological patients in order to prepare them to successfully pass the certification examination in the specialty of a doctor of physical and rehabilitation medicine, in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Theoretical knowledge of the field of neurology, especially in the context of patients whose future treatment is expected to improve their state of health as a result of the professional activity of specialists in the field of rehabilitation medicine. The medical resident will be able to explain the pathogenesis of neurological diseases and the role of clinical manifestations in the course of persistent functional conditions.

Skills

1.The medical resident will be able to evaluate neurological patients in the early period; will be able to analyse the evaluation results; will be able to predict late outcomes; will know how to identify risk factors for complications and draw up a complication prevention plan; evaluate the possibility of early mobilisation of the patient or signs of contraindications.

Competences

1.The medical resident will be able: to use the acquired knowledge, planning the necessary rehabilitation in the future; to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, starting from the acute stage of treatment; to predict late treatment and rehabilitation outcomes; to develop a plan of preventive measures.
