About Study Course
Objective
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.During acquisition of the study course a resident acquires basic knowledge on the most common paediatric heart diseases, their aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical expressions, diagnostic testing algorithms and treatment principles.
Skills
1.Following acquisition of the study course the resident will be able to carry out examination and evaluation of the objective clinical condition based upon the age of the child, to gather anamnesis of his/her life and illnesses, to draw up examination plan, to order additional examination methods and to evaluate results, as well as to provide emergency aid when necessary.
Competences
1.Upon successful completion of the study course the resident acquires mandatory competence of a certified paediatrician. The necessary level of competence varies for various cases of paediatric heart diseases and is provided in the table below. The competence levels are the following: 1st level: acquired knowledge complies with general concept of the subject matter, allowing the practitioner to understand the situation by reading literature or when coming across in practice, by engaging in purposeful search for necessary additional information and referring the patient to a specialist, when necessary. 2nd level: acquired knowledge on the particular matter is sufficient for understanding its nature, to diagnose the problem and provide emergency aid, when necessary, refer to a specialist, as well as to carry out diagnostics, treatment and prevention under the supervision of a specialist. 3rd level: the knowledge allows the practitioner to the particular problem independently. 1. Cardiac Development 2 2. The Fetal to Neonatal Circulatory Transition 2 3. History and Physical Examination in Cardiac Evaluation 2 4. Laboratory Cardiac Evaluation 2 5. Epidemiology and Genetic Basis of Congenital Heart Disease 2 6. Evaluation and Screening of the Infant or Child With Congenital Heart Disease 2 7. Acyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Left-to-Right Shunt Lesions 2 8. Acyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Obstructive Lesions 2 9. Acyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Regurgitant Lesions 2 10. Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Evaluation of the Critically Ill Neonate With Cyanosis and Respiratory Distress 2 11. Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Lesions Associated With Decreased Pulmonary Blood Flow 2 12. Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease : Lesions Associated With Increased Pulmonary Blood Flow 2 13. Other Congenital Heart and Vascular Malformations 1 14. Pulmonary Hypertension 2 15. General Principles of Treatment of Congenital Heart Disease 2 16. Disturbances of Rate and Rhythm of the Heart 2 17. Sudden Death 2 18. Infective Endocarditis 2 19. Rheumatic Heart Disease 2 20. Diseases of the Myocardium 2 21. Diseases of the Pericardium 2 22. Tumors of the Heart 1 23. Heart Failure 2 24. Pediatric Heart and Heart-Lung Transplantation 1 25. Diseases of the Blood Vessels (Aneurysms and Fistulas) 1 26. Systemic Hypertension 3

1) At the end of the cycle the lecturer gives an assessment of the practical skills in the 10-point grading scale by entering the grade in the student’s gradebook.
2) Theoretical knowledge is assessed in written form; the 10-point grading system is used for knowledge assessment.
