Preparing for class.

-
Test

Before each class, students independently study the theoretical topics specified in the session description, using the assigned reading and e-learning materials. Learning during classes is based on clinical case analysis, through which students demonstrate and apply their knowledge, develop clinical reasoning and justify their choice of investigations and management.

2.

Practical skills acquisition and demonstration.

-
10 points

Learning and demonstration of practical skills. Each semester, students submit video demonstrations of two designated practical skills in a simulated environment, giving a total of four demonstrations during the academic year. Skills are demonstrated using standardised assessment checklists, including preparation, procedural sequence, safety and relevant communication. After independently practising the skill, the student records a video of the procedure and uploads it to the e-study platform for assessment.

3.

Case studies.

10 points

In the final class of each semester, students independently analyse two clinical cases — obstetric cases in one semester and gynaecological cases in the other. The cases may cover any topic studied during the respective semester. Students identify the main clinical problem, interpret relevant history and investigation findings, and justify the differential diagnosis, further investigations, initial management and need for specialist involvement. The use of reference resources is not permitted during the final class.

10 points

1. At the end of Semester VII, a pass result is awarded based on fulfilment of attendance requirements, two successfully assessed practical skills video demonstrations and two successfully assessed clinical case analyses. The numerical marks for these assignments are retained for calculation of the final course grade.

2. In Semester VIII, students fulfil attendance requirements and submit two further practical skills video demonstrations and two further clinical case analyses.

3. The final course grade comprises:

    • 40% — four practical skills video demonstrations, each contributing 10% to the final grade;
    • 60% — four clinical case analyses, each contributing 15% to the final grade.

4. All mandatory practical skills demonstrations and clinical case analyses must be passed. Fulfilment of attendance requirements is a prerequisite for course completion.

Practical skills are assessed using standardised checklists covering preparation, procedural sequence, technical performance, safety and communication. Clinical case analysis is assessed for problem identification, data interpretation, justification of the differential diagnosis and proposed actions, recognition of the need for escalation, and use of evidence.
