About Study Course

Objective

To provide and improve theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery specialty regulations in order to prepare students for certification as traumatologists and orthopaedists.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- theoretical knowledge of the anatomy and pathophysiology of the lungs, pleura, bronchial system, oesophagus and thoracic wall, - theoretical knowledge of the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis of acute thoracic surgical diseases and indications for conservative and surgical treatment, - of diagnostic methods, instruments used in thoracic surgery, - of surgeon’s tactics in acute cases, - of emergency medical assistance when needed, indications for surgical treatment, - of peculiarities of the management of the post-operative period.

Skills

1.- assess the general condition of a patient in a proper way, - examine a patient with a thoracic pathology in a proper way, - able to perform a puncture of the pleural cavity, - able to perform drainage of the pleural cavity.

1.provide skilled first aid and emergency care to patients with thoracic pathology.

A. Examination of knowledge in theoretical matters. A written test of 50 multiple-choice questions (150 questions are prepared.). Assessment is done according to a 10-point grading system. B. Assessment of performing different manipulations on a mannikin. Assessment is done according to a 10-point grading system.
