About Study Course

Objective

The course provides advanced knowledge of the interdisciplinary aspects of endodontics and orthodontics, developing the resident's ability to evaluate the effects of orthodontic treatment on the dental pulp, periapical tissues and root structures, plan endodontic treatment before, during and after orthodontic therapy, and make evidence-based clinical decisions in collaboration with orthodontists.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.1. Acquire advanced knowledge of the effects of orthodontic treatment on the dental pulp, periapical tissues and root structures, as well as the principles of treatment planning for patients requiring both endodontic and orthodontic care. 2. Acquire knowledge of the indications, biological principles and clinical applications of orthodontic extrusion, as well as the diagnosis, prevention and management of orthodontically induced root resorption.

Skills

1.Assess the effects of orthodontic treatment on the dental pulp and periapical tissues, plan endodontic treatment and collaborate with orthodontists in determining the appropriate treatment sequence. Recognise orthodontically induced root resorption, evaluate its prognosis, and select appropriate treatment and follow-up strategies according to the clinical situation.

Competences

1.Integrate theoretical knowledge and clinical skills to independently plan interdisciplinary endodontic and orthodontic treatment by evaluating treatment benefits, risks and long-term prognosis. Independently make evidence-based clinical decisions in complex clinical situations through effective collaboration with orthodontists to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.

10 points

Written case-based assessment evaluating the resident's knowledge and clinical reasoning regarding the interdisciplinary aspects of endodontics and orthodontics, treatment planning, the indications for orthodontic extrusion, the diagnosis and management of orthodontically induced root resorption, and evidence-based clinical decision-making in a range of clinical scenarios.

Topics

Endodontics and Orthodontics: Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning
Description

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the principles of interdisciplinary treatment planning in endodontics and orthodontics by evaluating the condition of the dental pulp and periapical tissues before, during and after orthodontic treatment. The seminar examines the effects of orthodontic forces on pulp vitality, periapical tissues and endodontically treated teeth, as well as the importance of treatment sequencing in the management of complex clinical cases. The resident develops the ability to assess the indications for endodontic treatment in patients undergoing orthodontic therapy, formulate evidence-based interdisciplinary treatment plans and collaborate effectively with orthodontists to optimise treatment outcomes and long-term prognosis.

Topics

Orthodontic Extrusion and Endodontics
Description

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the biological principles, indications and clinical applications of orthodontic extrusion in tooth preservation therapy. The seminar examines the role of orthodontic extrusion in the management of subgingival fractures, deep carious lesions and perforations, as well as treatment sequencing in collaboration with orthodontists, periodontists and prosthodontists. The resident develops the ability to assess the indications and contraindications for orthodontic extrusion, determine the optimal timing of endodontic treatment in relation to orthodontic therapy, and evaluate treatment prognosis and long-term outcomes based on current scientific evidence.

Topics

Orthodontically Induced Root Resorption
Description

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, risk factors, diagnosis and prevention of orthodontically induced root resorption. The seminar examines the influence of orthodontic forces, treatment duration, individual anatomical characteristics and other predisposing factors on the development of root resorption, as well as the clinical and radiographic methods used for its diagnosis. The resident develops the ability to recognise root resorption at an early stage, assess its severity and prognosis, plan further management in collaboration with orthodontists, and make evidence-based clinical decisions to minimise the risk of further resorption and preserve the long-term prognosis of the tooth.
