About Study Course

Objective

To ensure improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to provide highly qualified assistance to patients with injuries and illnesses of various severity.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The resident will demonstrate the knowledge by: a) describing the general and local condition of patients with lower extremity trauma and diseases; b) explaining the decision made regarding the choice of the treatment method; c) evaluating the process of pathology and the results of the treatment; d) explaining the potential side effects and consequences of the pathology; e) assessing the patient's ability to work.

Skills

1.The resident will be able to: a) examine in detail a patient with trauma and diseases of the lower extremity; b) make an appropriate plan for further examination, evaluate the results; c) do conservative treatment for certain trauma; d) do puncture of large joints; e) do emergency knee arthroscopy; f) make a proper treatment and rehabilitation plan.

Competences

1.Using the acquired knowledge, the resident is able to: a) recognise and differentiate musculoskeletal trauma and diseases, give proper first aid and treatment; b) analyse the results of treatment of certain trauma; c) explain the rehabilitation plan needed for certain trauma case.

Independently study the latest materials and literature in the field of traumatology and orthopaedics; make a PowerPoint presentation on recent advances in traumatology and orthopaedics worldwide and present it at the weekly medical meeting. Analyse the results of treatment for a specific pathology and report on them at a medical conference.

The resident takes the theoretical knowledge test twice a school year, answering two theoretical questions in writing, reports on the acquired practical skills by presenting a list of them in writing.
