About Study Course

Objective

To gain a knowledge about embryology, development, functions and physiology of gastrointestinal tract in infats and children.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Understand the anatomical and physiological and hormonal changes in gut and liver that occur throughour childhood. Know immune functions of gastrointestinal tract. Know the basic histopathology and cellular dysfunction of important disorders causing malabsorption including celiac disease. Know the physiology of small intestine, including short bowel. Know the common causes of food allergies and intolerances, their initial management.

Skills

1.Be able to assess, diagnose and manage conditions resulting in mabsorption including celiac disease.

Competences

1.Experience in diagnostic procedures and their interpretation. Responsibility for conducting effective pediatric assessments and interpreting findings. Effective skills in making decision about management plan.
