Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Medical residents are able to demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of medical theories in intensive care, which meets the requirements of the specialty of anaesthesiologist, reanimatologist, which provides a basis for creative thinking in clinical practice and partly in research, as well as the ability to work in interdisciplinary interactions. Medical residents must: - be able to describe the basic principles, indications, limitations of basic (ECG, NIBP/IBP, SpO2) and specialised (ICP, PiCCO) monitoring methods used in intensive care; - be able to describe the main components and basic principles of operation of artificial lung ventilation equipment; - be able to assess the functional status of the patient’s circulatory system; - be able to assess the functional status of the patient’s genitourinary system; - be able to perform advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS); - be able to provide psychological care to patients in the intensive care unit; - be able to assess the functional status of the critically ill patient’s respiratory system; - be able to evaluate paraclinical examination data; - be familiar with the clinical-biochemical parameters of hypoxia; - be able to use the O2 inhalation method; - be able to assess conditions requiring artificial lung ventilation, - learn the operating principles of artificial ventilation equipment; - be able to assess the functional status of the patient’s circulatory system and to correct disorders; - be able to diagnose the degree of brain damage and care for an unconscious patient; - be able to diagnose septic conditions; - be familiar with the principles of antimicrobial therapy - be able to interpret the water-electrolyte and acid-base status of the blood and correct abnormalities; - be able to diagnose multiple organ failure; - be familiar with the indications for haemodialysis, haemofiltration, hemoadsorption and hyperbaric oxygenation; - be familiar with the principles of perfusor operation; - be able to perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation; - be able to provide psychological care to patients in the intensive care unit.
Skills
1.Medical residents are able to demonstrate successful performance of the manipulations included in the course description in a clinical setting. Medical residents must: - be able to practise basic and specialised monitoring of the patient’s condition; - be able to practically provide artificial lung ventilation to the patient (to define the regime and the basic conditions); - be able to assess the functional status of the critically ill patient’s respiratory system; - be able to evaluate paraclinical findings; - be able to use the O2 inhalation method; - be able to assess conditions requiring artificial lung ventilation; - be able to perform basic monitoring of the patient’s condition.
Competences
1.Medical residents are able to successfully apply intensive care methods to patients with organ system dysfunctions due to various underlying pathologies, understanding the nature of the methods and making informed decisions appropriate to their competence.

The acquisition of clinical skills is evaluated by the supervisor of practical training, while the supervisor of the specialty programme organises the examination of theoretical knowledge of study courses (in accordance with RSU Academic Regulations II). Theoretical knowledge is assessed using a variety of assessment methods: multiple-choice tests, essays, descriptions of solutions to clinical problems, case presentations, etc. Skills are assessed through observation of workplace performance, as well as through observation of demonstrations on a dummy or simulator, and through testing of objectively structured clinical skills. Medical residents’ knowledge and skills are assessed with a grade on a 10-point scale.
