About Study Course
Objective
Study k Ursa aims to prepare dental hygienists for professional and responsible activities in the field of children’s oral health by providing a scientifically sound, child rights-based and family-friendly approach.
Preliminary Knowledge
Prerequisites for anatomy, histology, dental development, prevention of oral diseases and public health are required.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.As a result of the study course, the student acquires knowledge of the growth and development of the child, the formation of primary and permanent dentition, the formation of the occlusion; about oral diseases, their diagnosis, prevention and treatment in children, about dental trauma in primary and permanent teeth, about emergency care for dental trauma and about support in trauma control that can be provided by a dental hygienist.
Skills
1.As a result of the study course, students will develop the following professional skills: -to establish a positive and trusting contact with the child and his legal representatives, using age-appropriate communication methods; -to perform age-appropriate oral examination of the child, plan individual preventive measures, including analysis of dietary habits; -to collect anamnesis, assess caries risk and implement appropriate preventive measures, as well as to motivate patients to maintain health; -to diagnose and control caries in primary and permanent teeth; -to diagnose and treat gingivitis using evidence-based methods; -to recognise mineralisation disorders and develop control strategies to prevent potential lesions or reduce their severity; -to act in cases of dental trauma, providing first aid and further care after trauma control visits.
Competences
1.Students as a result of the study course acquisition; - be able to identify patients belonging to high-risk groups, taking into account general health status, oral hygiene skills, saliva characteristics, caries intensity, periodont condition, oral mucosa health and occlusion characteristics; - evaluate individual risk factors and develop a personalised plan for oral health education, prevention and clinical treatment, ensuring its accurate and effective implementation in children and adolescents; - apply basic principles of pedagogy in the learning process, understand its structure, methods of selecting and transmitting information, as well as promote motivation in health education through appropriate learning techniques; contribute to changing attitudes and behaviours in the health education process through communication and education strategies based on child development and psychosocial characteristics.

Attend lectures, seminars and practical classes. In the 2nd semester, arrange a time for a placement visit to the Paediatric Department of the Institute of Stomatology for clinical work observation. Prepare for weekly and final tests using lecture and seminar learning materials. Fill in the course evaluation form. |
