About Study Course

Objective

Develop and improve oral and written Latvian language skills for communication in situations related to studies, sports, training and competition process.

Preliminary Knowledge

Latvian language knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in st. in the course "Professional Communication I, II, III, IV in Latvian (for Foreign Students).

1.The student is able to understand questions, explanations, information about sports, training and competition process spoken at a normal pace.

1.The student is able to provide oral and written information about sports, training, competitions, using the learned vocabulary.

1.The student is able to read and understand informative texts about sports; form questions and answer them.

For completing the study course, the student receives a differentiated assessment based on a 10-point scale, summing up the set number of points for knowledge, skills and competences in the performance of individual tasks, for attitude and individual dynamics. In order to receive a positive rating, the total rating must correspond to at least 4 points. You can receive 10 points for additional individual work that is not included in the study program, showing excellent Latvian language skills. Evaluation criteria: • knowledge and skills in lexicon and grammar are evaluated with tests; the test consists of various tasks, for each task the student receives a certain number of points. The following types of tasks are optionally included in the test: a) task: correct placement of a word or expression in a sentence - 5 p. (for each correct insertion – 0.5 p.); b) task: write a synonym or antonym - 5 p. (for each correct option – 0.5 p.); c) task: choosing the correct word or statement variant - 5 p. (for each correct choice – 1 p.); d) task: answer the questions - 10 p. (for each complete, correct answer – 1 p.); • language skills are assessed during contact lessons; • independent work is evaluated with presentations; Presentation evaluation criteria: a) speech: 2 p. - speaks freely; 1 p. – reads and speaks; b) language: 2 p. – rich language; 1 p. – language with gaps; c) content: 2 p. – extensive, interesting information; 1 p. – incomplete information; d) visual presentation: 2 p. correctly formed; 1 p. – with imperfections; e) additional materials: 2 p. - various appropriate additional materials; 1 p. – video materials only. Total maximum number of points - 10 p. when evaluating attitude, active activity in practical lessons is taken into account: 1 p. – the student shows interest and responsibility for his education; 0,5 p. – the student expresses interest in his education. • the growth of knowledge, skills and competences during the course forms the individual dynamics: 1 p. – systematically rising; 0,5 p. – episodic,
