About Study Course

Objective

To promote awareness of psychology as science and the processes and manifestations of psychic phenomena in a personality, as well as to provide knowledge of the nature and manifestations of psychic processes in a personality, emotional states and individual traits. Building awareness of the regularities and characteristics of human development at different stages of life, of opportunities to promote personality development and to stimulate the growth of one’s personality. Promoting a holistic approach to understanding and interpreting the issues of mental development of a personality.

Preliminary Knowledge

Successfully completed secondary school programme, preliminary knowledge on the structure and functions of the CNS is preferable.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.1. Knows the theoretical foundations of General and Developmental Psychology and knows the groups of psychic phenomena – cognitive processes, emotional states and individual traits of personality. 2. Knows the age periodisation of personality development, the theory of personality development and approaches to explaining personality development. 3. Has mastered the specifics, terminology of the subject of developmental psychology.

Skills

1.4. Knows how to use the theoretical foundations learned about psychic phenomena and approaches to studying personality in personality characteristic. 5. Able to independently describe each age in physical, social, cognitive and emotional development. 6. Demonstrates skills to apply the acquired knowledge in explaining the development of own personality and skills to analyse the factors determining the development of a child as a personality.

Competences

1.7. Understands the progress of psychic phenomena and their manifestations in professional activity. 8. Able to theoretically evaluate and apply different psychological methodologies and practical approaches to pedagogical work.

Students deepen their knowledge in the topics learned during the lecture by performing three independent works: 1. Mind map on cognitive processes. 2. Analytical description of one theoretical direction of psychology (essay). 3. Independent integrative study with presentation of one of the psychic phenomena and its development at a particular age.
