About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the specialty of a geriatrician and related to surgical diseases in geriatric patients.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Most frequent surgical pathology in elderly people. Acute situations related to surgical pathology at older ages. Risks, their prevention. Possible surgical aid to elderly people. Bedsores. Chronic ulcers. Riskassessment in case of surgical and invasive manipulations. Pre- and postoperative care. Fragile patient.

Skills

1.Recognition of potential surgical pathology, determination of symptomsand syndromes, Interpretation of physical examination and tests, appropriate assessment of an acute surgical situation. Drawing up of a treatment plan of chronic ulcers, bedsores. Selection of the most suitable treatment method in case of chronic ulcers.

Competences

1.Is able to recognise acute surgical pathology in elderly people. To interpret and analyse the obtained data in acute situations related to surgical pathology. Is able to determine bedsore risks and refer preventive measuresfor elderly and fragile patients.
