About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition of the sub-specialty of radiology for the implementation of the study programme in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the radiology specialty in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of radiologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To formulate and briefly describe the radiological anatomy and congenital normal variants of the selected sub-specialty of radiology. • To name, recognise and radiologically describe the main pathologies and their differential diagnosis in the chosen sub-specialty of radiology. • To define the indications, limitations, contraindications and examination algorithms of radiological examinations in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of pathologies of the chosen sub-specialty of radiology. • To name and briefly describe the types of radiological examinations and their technical parameters in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the main pathologies in the relevant sub-specialty of radiology. • To list and formulate the types of treatment, complications and radiological diagnosis of the main pathologies in the chosen sub-specialty of radiology.

Skills

1.• To justify, fully master radiological examination techniques, describe radiological examinations (roentgenography, roentgenoscopy, ultrasonography, CT, MRI) according to internationally accepted guidelines for the evaluation of normal and pathological radiological data obtained in the chosen sub-specialty.

Competences

1.• To evaluate and justify radiological examinations in detail and accurately in the chosen sub-specialty of radiology. • To plan, evaluate and justify the choice of each radiological diagnostic method in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of a specific pathology in the chosen sub-specialty of radiology.

• To acquire and defend the acquired theoretical knowledge in the chosen sub-specialty of radiology. • To analyse the methodology of radiological examinations, data processing, analysis, interpretation, diagnostic conclusions of the selected sub-specialty of radiology. • To master electronic transmission of data in radiological examinations and basic principles of radiological work in e-environment. • To develop and improve team work and interdisciplinary communication skills. • To completely master the preparation of clinical cases for demonstration, theoretical analysis and presentation at councils, clinical conferences, scientific forums and publication in internationally cited journals. • To develop skills for preparation, designing and presentation of an independent clinically-oriented research.

A certified teaching physician assesses the resident’s knowledge and skills on a 10-point scale at the end of each rotation cycle. Theoretical knowledge of normal and pathological radiological anatomy, the ability to synthesise a correct radiological diagnosis and to specifically formulate differential diagnoses according to the course description of the relevant radiology specialty are assessed.
