About Study Course

Objective

Acquisition of theoretical and practical skills in breast cancer diagnostics and treatment.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Ethiology and pathogenesis of breast cancer, screening programme for early cancer detection, investigation methods, hormone-receptor positive and hormone-receptor negative breast cancer, principles of brest cancer staging, breast cancer morphology, surgical treatment, breast-conserving surgery, reconstructive breast surgery, principles of chemotherapy in breast cancer treatment, principles of radiation therapy in breast cancer treatment.

Skills

1.Ability to define breast cancer stage based on the available investigation results.

Competences

1.Ability to develop a breast cancer treatment plan. Ability to analyse results and complications of investigations and treatment, provide evidence based investigation and treatment strategy for a breast cancer patient.

Practical work at RAKUS, Latvian oncology center, led by Dr.med. J.Eglītis. There is no identical alternatives. Manipulations/assisting in operations: -Sectoral resection of the breat glands (3 assisted) -Breast amputation with axillary lymphadenectomy (3 assisted) -Evaluation of mammograms (50 assisted) -Interpretation of breast gland ultrasonography (20 assisted)
