About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the course is to learn the theoretical foundations of labor protection and civil protection, as well as practical methods of predicting, identifying, evaluating, controlling, preventing or reducing the impact of various risk factors of the work environment on the health of workers.

Preliminary Knowledge

Prior knowledge in biology, physics, chemistry, human anatomy at the level of a high school program is required.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of learning the study subject, students will acquire basic knowledge in the fields of labor protection and civil protection, they will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in various non-standard situations, accidents.

Skills

1.As a result of learning the study subject, the student will be able to protect himself and others from exposure to harmful work and environmental factors, organize civil defense measures and participate in them.

Competences

1.Competences: As a result of learning the study subject, students will be able to: - independently and critically analyze harmful factors in the work environment; - know the typical signs of occupational diseases caused by the most common physical, chemical, ergonomic, biological, mechanical risk factors of the working environment; - organize and manage measures to prevent or reduce exposure to risk factors in the work environment; - will be able to participate in the prevention or reduction of exposure to harmful environmental factors, based on the acquired knowledge of the legislatively based organizational structure and functioning schemes of the Latvian civil defense system; - navigate in special literature and internet databases to find the necessary information on risk factors and protection of the work environment.
