About Study Course

Objective

To introduce students to the theoretical and practical principles of social psychology and the possibilities of using them in working with people and groups of people. Analyze the role of the personality in the social context and provide knowledge about the components of the psychological structure of the personality in the social context. Students are taught to recognize socio-psychological phenomena in practice, analyze their causes and possible consequences. To improve students' knowledge of the findings of social psychology on the influence of social conditions on the consciousness and social behavior of individuals, groups and the entire society, personality development in the social context, social psychological phenomena of groups, their psychological mechanisms.

Knowledge

1.Students understand, compare and critically assess the impact of social conditions on an individual, group, society, their social behaviour, personality development within a social context, socio-psychological phenomena of groups and their psychological mechanisms.

Skills

1.Students reasonably discuss the impact of social conditions on the individual, group, society and its social behaviour. They discuss the personality development within the social context, the socio-psychological phenomena of groups and their mechanisms.

Competences

1.Students evaluate and define problems related to the impact of social conditions on an individual, group, society and their social behaviour; they are able to find ways for solving problems according to the specific situation. They evaluate and define problems related to personality development within the social context, the socio-psychological phenomena of groups, their mechanisms and the role of the psychologist in their regulation.

1. Presentation. Come up with a topic for a practical lesson and prepare a presentation for 5-7 minutes. Briefly about the topic and why it is important to social psychology. Who are the main authors who have studied this topic. Three modern studies (from 2012): what did the scientists study? How to? What results did you get, what conclusions did you reach? What do I personally think about it? 2. Project work. Choose a question related to social psychology and think how its solution could change the life of our society for the better. For example, the topic of ageism, social inequality of the Roma people, psychoeducation of people about schizophrenia and dementia patients. The topic may coincide with task 1. The task is to come up with: a tool, a method, an implementation schedule, to think about the possible results of the work and a research confirming them. You prepare a three-minute video. It can simply be a phone recording or a screen presentation with your comments in the background.

40% - permanent works, 20% - tests, 40% - exam. Analyze the selected plot situation from the point of view of social psychology. For example, discrimination, stereotypical thinking, attribution error, aggression, mobbing, conformism, stress, etc. In a multi-theory perspective. Describe the socio-psychological causes. Use references in the text.
