About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition of oncological radiology for successful further implementation of studies in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the radiology specialty in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of radiologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To classify the basic principles of pathological mechanisms of oncogenesis, angiogenesis, lymphogenesis, metastasis. • To decipher and briefly describe the epidemiology, types, radiological classifications and stages of the most common tumours. • To name and explain the types of treatment, indications, contraindications for oncological pathology. • To recognise, formulate and sequentially arrange acute and chronic complications of oncological pathology treatment, their radiological diagnosis. • To name, explain and formulate oncological pathologies, stages, choice of the most appropriate examination method. • To formulate and briefly describe the basic radiological principles of oncological pathology screening (breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer).

Skills

1.• To recognise, characterise and assess abdominal oncopathology by ultrasonography and dynamic evaluation under the supervision of a certified physician. • To demonstrate, explain and use CT scan protocols in the diagnosis of oncologic pathology, dynamic evaluation under the supervision of a certified physician.

Competences

1.• To evaluate, substantiate and justify the indications and contraindications of radiological examinations, choose the most appropriate type of examination in the diagnosis of a specific oncological pathology and in the control of dynamics. • To plan, interpret and compare radiological examinations of the most common oncological pathologies according to the accepted standards of the clinical base. • To substantiate, compare and justify the evaluation of the dynamics of oncological radiological examinations according to the standards adopted by the European Society of Radiology and the clinical training base. • To plan, interpret and evaluate the most informative radiological diagnostic method in the diagnosis of oncological pathology.

• To acquire and defend the acquired theoretical basic knowledge in oncological radiology. • To discover and develop methodology, data processing, analysis, interpretation, formation of diagnostic opinions in examinations of oncological radiology. • To master electronic transmission of data in examinations of oncological radiology and basic principles of radiological work in e-environment. • To develop and improve team work and interdisciplinary communication skills. • To improve and develop basic skills for preparation of case reports for a demonstration, theoretical analysis and presentation at councils, clinical conferences, scientific forums and for publication. • To develop and apply in clinical interpretation basic skills for preparation, designing and presentation of an individual clinically-oriented research.

A certified teaching physician assesses the resident’s knowledge and skills on a 10-point scale at the end of each rotation cycle. Theoretical knowledge of normal and pathological radiological anatomy and practical skills in interpretation of examinations according to the study course description of the relevant radiology specialty are assessed.
