About Study Course

Objective

To promote the development of students’ professional competence by providing an understanding of contemporary pedagogical principles and the nature of pedagogical work in the sports environment, as well as by developing skills to analyse, plan and organise the teaching and training process, while understanding the content and functions of the educational and learning process and acquiring initial research approaches.

Preliminary Knowledge

Basic knowledge of sport theory, stages of human development, and fundamental pedagogical concepts, including an understanding of learning objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment principles.

Analysis of the scientific Article on pedagogical trends in sports education

The student shall analyse one scientific Article regarding modern pedagogical approaches or teaching methods in sports education, identify the main pedagogical trends, evaluate their application in the sports training or training process and prepare a structured analysis.

Presentation of the pedagogical approach to working with different ageing stages in sport

Test

Students in pairs analyse a specific profile of an athlete or student at a certain age stage based on a real observation or interview in a sports or educational environment. The work describes the peculiarities, motivation and behavioural aspects of aging development, as well as identifying potential pedagogical challenges.

Based on the analysis, students shall develop a pedagogical approach to work with the particular athlete or pupil, including motivation strategies, feedback principles, discipline approaches and possibilities for strengthening self-assessment.

The results are presented in a 10-minute presentation in which students engage the audience in a discussion or demonstrate a brief pedagogical situation.

An active holding shall be assessed taking into account: involvement in seminar discussions; the ability to express an opinion in a reasoned manner; ability to analyse pedagogical situations and to propose possible solutions; cooperation in group work and discussions.

Project work

20.00% from total grade

Student develops individual analysis of pedagogical situation based on real observation in sports or educational environment (for example, in a workout, competition, class or other learning situation). The work describes the observed situation, analyses pedagogical interactions, the learning methods used and adherence to the characteristics of the age stage.

Based on the analysis, the student develops a model of pedagogical action for the specific situation, justifying the chosen approach with pedagogical theories and scientific literature. The work also includes reflection on the role of the observed situation in professional development.

Work volume: 6-10 pp. At least 3-5 scientific sources shall be used at work. The results of the work are presented at the seminar.

Assessment criteria The

  • quality and accuracy of the situation observation;
  • depth and theoretical justification of the pedagogical analysis;
  • the validity of the proposed pedagogical solution;
  • reflection and professional reasoning;
  • the use of literature and the presentation of the work;
  • presentation quality.

Exam

50.00% from total grade
10 points

Completion of the study course at the end thereof shall be assessed on a 10-point scale in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia. The examination shall consist of theoretical questions and the tasks of analysing pedagogical situations. The examination shall use open and closed questions regarding theoretical foundations of pedagogy, principles of the organisation of the learning process in the sports environment, teaching methods and the specificities of age stages in sports education. The performance of students shall be assessed taking into account the volume and quality of acquired knowledge, the ability to analyse pedagogical situations and apply theoretical knowledge in practice, as well as the acquired competence in accordance with the study results planned in the study course.
