Objective
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.- tumour epidemiology, trends in the world and in Latvia; - tumour epidemiology; - diagnostic screening of malignant tumours; - basic principles of tumour therapy (neoadjuvant, adjuvant) and ways and results of practical application of treatment; - principles of health survey and registration of patients in Latvia; - to be able to act in case of providing emergency medical assistance in oncology; - possibilities and implementation of palliative therapy in oncology; - documentation of an oncological patient; - principles of medical ethics in oncology.
Skills
1.- to evaluate population groups at higher risk in oncology, - to evaluate a specific risk in case of individual tumour localisations; - to plan necessary examinations for screening, diagnostics and staging of different malignant tumours; - to interpret results of clinical analyses, radiological and endoscopic examinations; - to obtain tissue material for cytological and histological examination, to prepare respective accompanying documents and to evaluate results of morphological examinations; - to perform puncture of the pleural cavity and ascites; - to perform digital rectal examination and to evaluate its results; - to organise necessary medical assistance for an oncological patient in case of acute situations; - to prescribe an adequate analgesic and palliative therapy in case of tumours; - to adequately examine a patient with potential oncological pathology, to organise the patient monitoring process after radical treatment (health survey) for diagnostics of a recurrence in a timely manner; - to work with oncological patients and medical facility personnel, observing principles of medical ethics.
