About Study Course

Objective

To promote students’ understanding of the fundamentals, methods, and terminology of functional training, as well as to develop their ability to apply them purposefully in the planning and delivery of functional training sessions for different target groups.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy of the human support and motion apparatus, sports and normal physiology, understanding of the biomechanics of human movements, kinesiology, understanding of sports theory.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Orient in the terminology of functional exercises and basic movements, understand their functional meaning and application depending on the purpose of the lesson and the specifics of the target group.

Individual work and tests

Basic movements in the functional lesson

Skills

1.Be able to use functional exercise terminology in formulating and demonstrating exercises.

Individual work and tests

Basic movements in the functional lesson • Skill test

2.Will be able to determine the functional usefulness of exercises, analyse the technical execution of movement and identify the most significant errors in execution.

3.Will be able to choose exercise progressions and regressions, as well as to apply inventory according to the purpose of the lesson and the needs of the student/client.

Competences

1.Will be able to draw up a structured functional training plan using appropriate terminology and following the principles of training structure and load planning.

Individual work and tests

Rating skills • Basic movements in the functional lesson

2.Be able to adapt functional exercises and the content of the training to the purpose, target group and individual abilities.

3.Will be able to critically analyse the functional training content and exercise selection developed by themselves and their colleagues.

Assessment

Individual work

Title
% from total grade
Grade
1.

Skill test

50.00% from total grade
10 points

Development and defence of a functional training plan. The structure of the plan and its relevance to the target group/situation, the selection and order of exercises, the use of progressions/regressions, the accuracy of terminology, safety considerations and the justification of choices are assessed. Detailed assessment criteria are available in e-studies.

2.

Rating skills

20.00% from total grade
10 points

Analysis and argumentative evaluation of another functional training plan. Evaluates the ability to identify the strengths and areas for improvement of the plan, to justify the changes proposed, to use terminology correctly and to link the analysis to the principles learned in the course. Detailed evaluation criteria are available in e-studies.

Examination

Title

Grade
1.

Basic movements in the functional lesson

30.00% from total grade
10 points

Written/theoretical and practical knowledge test. Evaluates the accuracy of terminology, understanding of functional movement principles, movement analysis, safety, rationale for exercise selection and adaptation. Detailed evaluation criteria available in e-studies.
