About Study Course

Objective

Introduce students to the historical origin of insolvency law, the specific nature of insolvency law; clarify the nature of insolvency law, the purpose and basic functions of the legal framework; acquaint with laws and regulations of the EU and the Republic of Latvia and their practical application. An insight into current case law will be given during the course. The planned changes in the sectoral policy and legal framework will also be addressed during the course.

Preliminary Knowledge

Administrative Law, Administrative Procedure, Introduction to Civil Law, Commercial Law.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.On completion of the study course students will have acquired knowledge of the insolvency proceedings for a natural person and a legal entity, of legal protection process and of legal regulation of insolvency.

Skills

1.On completion of the study course students will be able to identify the signs of insolvency of a natural and legal person and draw up procedural documents in the field of insolvency.

Competences

1.On completion of the study course students will analyse insolvency cases, apply the regulatory framework, identify natural and legal persons in the insolvency proceedings and understand the procedural time limits.
