About Study Course

Objective

To learn the basics of diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases. To develop the ability to identify patients’ problems and formulate care principles. To acquire knowledge about the principles of primary and secondary prevention, patient education and psychological support.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge of taking anamnesis and systematic assessment of the patient’s state of health by organ system, knowledge of irregularities in basic laboratory test results in case of various syndromes. Knowledge in pharmacology and pathology according to the requirements of the study programme.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Understanding of the most common diseases and problems encountered in the specialty of internal diseases, their clinical manifestations, diagnosis, principles of therapy and prevention.

Skills

1.To systematically question the patient about their current health problems related to the specialty of internal diseases. Using the information given by the patient, to purposefully search for and evaluate the objective signs of the most common internal diseases. To recognise and characterise the most common internal diseases by organ system, create an initial care plan. To be able to recognise the most common complications of these diseases.

Competences

1.To formulate the patient’s problems by independently questioning the patient and check them by conducting an objective examination of the patient by organ systems. By evaluating the most frequent clinical examinations – electrocardiography, spirometry, blood and biochemical tests –, to summarise the obtained results as disease syndromes or diseases. To draw up a patient care plan and set goals for solving problems and evaluate the degree of achievement thereof.
