Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.As a result of learning the study course, students will be able to tell about the types of disasters and tactics of action in the event of a disaster; will be able to define disaster and military medicine; will be able to describe the situation of disasters in Latvia, name their reasons. Will be able to list and describe the basic principles of rescue in disaster and military situations.
Skills
1.As a result of learning the study course, the student will be able to assess the harmful effects of various external environmental factors on the human body. To know and apply the principles of therapy in case of various acute situations at the scene, during transportation and in the hospital, as well as to adopt a therapeutic action plan appropriate for an individual patient, balancing it with the guidelines.
Competences
1.Students understand and appreciate the system of disaster and military medicine in the overall health care system; organizes psychosocial support for victims of disasters and war; organizes and conducts evaluation and debriefing sessions. Provides emergency assistance in emergency, disaster and military situations. Understands the notification system established in Latvia and knows how to act when alarm sirens sound.

Preliminary preparation for the topic of the relevant lesson, using recommended literature and Internet resources, with their subsequent evaluation and practical application in theoretical and practical lessons. Review of evidence-based scientific literature on relevant topics. Development of permanent works in sections on types of disasters and risk factors in case of natural and man-made disasters, provision of psychological and social assistance to victims of disasters and military situations (direct and indirect victims).

|
A simulation scenario exercise (50%) and a written test (50%). A 10-point system is used to evaluate students' knowledge and skills, the criteria described in the RSU Study Regulations are used for evaluation.
