About Study Course

Objective

To acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pulp and apical periodontal tissue diseases.

Preliminary Knowledge

Oral anatomy, oral histology, dental embryology, pulp histology, physiology, oral microbiology, immunology, radiology, dental hard tissue pathology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of learning the study course, students will know and be able to explain the prevention, etiology, pathology of pulp and periapical tissue diseases. Will be able to evaluate the clinical manifestations and treatment options of endodontic diseases. Will be able to perform differential diagnosis of maxillofacial pain and diagnosis of pulp and periapical tissue diseases. Will understand and be able to explain the microbiology and immunology of the pulp and periapical tissues, the relationship with general diseases of the body. Will be able to name and describe the materials used in endodontics, will know the pharmacotherapy of medications. Will be able to evaluate the treatment result and determine the prognosis for an endodontically treated tooth. Will be able to evaluate indications for surgical and complicated endodontic treatment and referral of the patient to an endodontic specialist.

Skills

1.As a result of studying the course, students will be able to apply specific diagnostic tests in the diagnosis of pulp and periapical tissue diseases, take X-rays in endodontics. Will know how to isolate endodontically treated teeth. Will know how to treat and prevent vital pulp. Will be able to use appropriate methods for the treatment of vital and devital single-rooted and multi-rooted teeth with uncomplicated anatomy and perform emergency treatment in acute cases.

Competences

1.Students acquire competence in endodontics, according to the regulations of the general dentist specialty. Competence to diagnose endodontic disease, make decisions and choose treatment methods that are in accordance with existing treatment methods in dentistry.
