About Study Course

Objective

To provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills and improve them in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the speciality of paediatric onco-haematology in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Demonstrates in-depth and expanded knowledge and understanding in medicine in general, but in the specialty of pediatric hemato-oncologist, they meet the requirements of the specialty and are in the vanguard of scientific and professional fields, which provides a basis for creative thinking in clinical practice and partially also in research, as well as the ability to work in interdisciplinary communication.

Skills

1.Obtain bone marrow cell material for cytological examination - in the form of a print, scraping or aspiration biopsy and perform a referral to a cytological laboratory at least 50 times. Participate in chemotherapy planning and implementation at least 150 times. To participate in the implantation of a long catheter "port", its functioning check and care - 15 times. Perform bone marrow biopsies 30 – 40 times, endolumbar administration of cytostatic agents 30 – 40 times, administration of cytostatic agents in the shunt system at CNS damage 5 – 10 times. Perform a quality myelogram assessment 10-15 times.

1.Discussion and arguments about complex questions in choosen specialty and research aspects, ability to discuss with specialists, non-specialists, patients, society, etc.

1. Residents' everyday practical skills and behavior with patients under treatment, entries in medical histories and other medical documentation are checked and certified by the resident's manager in the structural unit to which the resident is assigned. 2. After each module (rotational cycle), the resident's theoretical (in the form of discussions during the seminar) and practical knowledge (working with patients) is assessed on a 10-point system by the head of the relevant rotational cycle resident, making an entry in the resident's book.
