About Study Course
Objective
The qualification examination is an integral part of the professional Master’s study programme. The qualification examination shall be taken for obtaining the professional qualification of a lawyer. The knowledge and skills of the student in the following fields shall be examined in the qualification examination: criminal law and the right to criminal proceedings; civil, civil and commercial law; constitutional, administrative and administrative rights; international and European Union law; theory of law, philosophy of law and history of Latvian law.
Preliminary Knowledge
Successful completion of the professional Master’s study programme and successful defence of the Master’s thesis.

1. Requirements for students taking a study course for the first time: a student must obtain a successful assessment on each of the subjects (issues of all fields of the national single legal professional qualification examination shall be successfully completed). A student is entitled to take a non-successful interim examination three times. If a student has obtained a successful assessment in at least three fields in the first intermediate examination, he or she shall be entitled to take an intermediate examination in the next intermediate examination only in the outstanding fields. 2. Requirements for students who re-take the study course after the professional qualification examination of the State Unified lawyer has not been successfully passed: 2.1. if the State single legal professional qualification examination has been passed unsuccessfully in more than two fields of examination, the student shall take the intermediate examination in all fields of examination (procedures equal to those during the first intermediate examination); 2.2. if the State single legal professional qualification examination has been passed unsuccessfully in one or two fields, the intermediate examination shall be taken for the student only in the unsuccessful examination fields. The times of taking the intermediate examination are not restricted, before taking the professional qualification examination of the State unified lawyer the student must obtain a successful assessment in all fields of the examination by passing the intermediate examination and fulfilling the requirements of the study course, as the State unified professional qualification examination of the lawyer is an integral part of the study programme. Students who have not passed the intermediate examination are not entitled to take the final examination - the State Unified Professional qualification examination of a lawyer and are extricated. |
